About your trip

Join Sheila Ewers  for an unforgettable trip into the heart of Africa on the doorstep of Chobe National Park in Botswana.

This Circle of Life Yoga Retreat celebrates the interconnectedness of all living things, inspired by the natural cycles of birth, growth and transformation. Set in a serene safari location, the retreat offers a holistic blend of yoga, meditation, and nature to guide you on a personal jouney of renewal and balance.

Our journey will begin and end at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, where you will meet your hosts and facilitators, stay in a lodge near the Falls, and visit the Victoria Falls Rainforest before being transfered via boat cruise and game drive to our private Glamping Lodge the following day.

Each day will include yoga, breathwork, meditation and activiites to deepen our circle of connection, and throughout the week, we will experience game drives,  a cultural village tour, (including cultural workshops such as Basket Weaving Demonstrations, Music/Drumming, Bush Fauna, Survival and Medicine Talks, Cooking Classes, or Dance Workshops). a traditional Boma dinner and dancing, and much more.

What You Should Know:

Participants will need to book their own tranportation to and from Victoria Falls. The simplest way to do this if you are traveling from the US is to fly into Johannasburg, South Africa and take a domestic flight from there. Many flights are availalbe daily for a nominal fee, and the journey from Johannasburg to Victoria Falls takes less than 2 hours. As we grow closer to the date, we would like to coordinate our arrival to Victoria Falls Airport, so it will be best if we are all on the same flight. I will send recommended flight information 6 month prior to the retreat.

The location of this retreat is remote, and the accommodations are simple but elegant in glamping tents. We will be staying outside of the National Park, so there is little to no risk of dangerous predators on the property.

We highly recommend travel insurance to cover any unexpected event or need for evacuation. Our preferred supplier for this is Trawick International.

Day 1

Day 1 image

Arrival Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe

Upon arrival at Victoria Falls Airport, your tranfer will bring you to our partner hotel to meet the group and settle in. We'll gather for a delicious lunch, a meet and greet activity and some time to get to know each other. Then we will make our way to Victoria Falls Rainforest to view this astonishing natural wonder. The day will end with a group dinner before you tuck in for a restful night full of dreams of the coming adventure.

Day 2

Day 2 image

Boat Cruise and Game Drive

After an invigorating yoga practice, we will begin our journey to Botswana. Along the way, we will jump right into our safari adventure with a Boat Cruise and Game Drive through the Chobe National Forest. Potential exists to see all 5 of the big game right here on your first day. Keep your eyes open for leopards, rhinos, elephants, lions, buffalo, giraffes and other wild friends before you even arrive at our destination!

Day 3

Day 3 image

Walking Safari and Sundowner

We'll start our day with yoga and spend most of our time relaxing on the property, journaling, and connecting our circle more deeply through the stillness of the African Savannah. When evening arrives, we'll venture out for a walking safari and watch the breathtaking sunset together before returning to the lodge for dinner. Before bed, we'll gather once more for meditation under the stars.

Day 4

Day 4 image

Game Drive

After yoga and a relaxing day at Munga Plains, we'll set out on a lengthier game drive. As we dive a bit deeper into the park and explore its divers ecosystem, you will be sure to meet more and more varieties of animals. Chobe is famous for its elephants and is home to an extimated 50,000 of them, so it is highly likely that we will see them along the way. You may also spot antelope species like impalas, kudus and sables, or elegant giraffes grazing on tall trees. When we return to the lodge, we can share our wonder at our group dinner and retire to the yoga shala later for a meditation on connection.

Day 5

Day 5 image

Mokoro

Today starts as usual with a mindful movement practice in the morning and a leisurely early afternoon before our highlight: a Mokoro safari on traditional canoes. Thousands of years ago, the Bushmen used dug-out canoes to effortlessly move around the Okavango Delta. Today, eco-friendly versions are used for game viewing safaris and the mokoro has become the iconic symbol of the Delta. Gliding over mirror-like bodies of water in one of the most idyllic spots in the world is an experience that is quite unrivalled. From this vantage point, the size and scale of all you see seems even more special.

-note that this is dependent upon seasonal rains and floodwaters. If we are unable to do this activity, a similar one will replace it.

Day 6

Day 6 image

Cultural Connection

After an inspired movement class, delicious breakfast and lunch and time to relax, we will make our way into the local village to learn more about the area and culture in which we are immersed. Situated on the former tribal land of the Basubiya people,  Munga Plains honors their cultural heritage by hiring local staff, supporting artisans, and collaborating on community projects. As guests, we get to experience local traditions and lifestyles, ensuring that our visit positively impacts the community.

After dinner, we will venture out for a night game drive to see if we can spot all of the animals that are more shy during the day.

Day 7

Day 7 image

Integration, Connection, Final Game Drive

As we prepare to move beyond our circle and ripple back into the world around us, we will explore what it means to carry such an experience with us beyond Botswana. Expect lots of time for connection, journaling and envisioning your impact. In the afternoon, we will take our final game drive to soak in the wild one last time.

Day 8

Day 8 image
